NAAAP Scholarship Winners

NAAAP-North Carolina congratulates the two winners of the 2008 college scholarships, Ruby Lin and Robert Chang. Both are high school seniors with top academic credentials and impressive extracurricular activities.

Robert Chang, from Harrisburg, is a 4.8-GPA student at Central Cabarrus High School. He is a National Merit Semi-finalist, two-time member of the National Scholastic All-American Team, was a North Carolina House page, and is an award-winning swimmer. He has been accepted by Columbia University in New York. The son of Robert & Jessie Chang, he has also been active in the local Buddhist temple. Robert's essay was about "A Sense of Duty: My Father, My American Journey" by Quang Phan.

Ruby Yi-Chun Lin, from Cary, is a 4.75-GPA student at Green Hope High School. Her parents are Hsi-Chiang Lin and Li-Hua Liao. She is the flute section leader in the marching band, was her sophomore class Vice President, is active in various musical organizations, and attended the Summer Ventures for Science and Mathematics at UNC-Charlotte. She is also treasurer for the Natl. Beta Club and a member of the National Honors Society. Ruby has also been active in the Raleigh Chinese Christian Church youth group and assisted with Raleigh Chinese Language School classes for five years. She has applied to many top universities, such as Duke and Johns Hopkins. Ruby's essay was on "Yell-Oh! Girls" by Vickie Nam.
